Less Censorship: Greater Freedom of Expression
Censorship is about as familiar to everyone as breathing in air. As kids we all tend to attribute censorship to keeping out the bad parts of television, however censorship plays a larger role. Mainly the role of a parent, when most are capable of making their own decisions.
Censorship is fine in certain scenarios, but not in everything. Of course I don’t want to have a kids show with the main character using hardcore drugs while running naked through the streets. Though, those who want to be able to express themselves should have the outlet. Censorship restricts expression by telling us what is, and what is not, socially acceptable. It is important to know where your expressions will have the most impact and the reach that you want, but its just as important, if not more so, to be able to express yourself in the manner of your choosing and not just in the acceptable manner.
Less censorship will help people be able to focus on their expression and not having to fine tune their programs solely to fit within someone else’s guidelines. Television is an amazing medium for many, and it should be an open forum for greater expression.
