Most people cringe when they hear “documentary” and think of a boring movie where they will be lectured. But there are plenty of documentaries that will not only hold your attention, but keep you interested throughout the show.

“Food, Inc” is an excellent story that will show you what you are putting into your body. It will explain where your food comes from, what “hidden” things are being added or done to your food that you do not know about, and how un-healthy some of your food really is.

“March of The Penguins” is a silly, sometimes sad tale of these strange creatures. Travel with the Emperor penguins on their 70-mile journey to the spot where they must lay their eggs. They will then have to travel 70-miles back through terrible conditions just to survive and take care of their new family. Heartbreaking at times, it shows true survival at it’s best.

If you are a big credit card user, you might want to watch “Maxed Out.” This informative movie will show you the secrets the credit card companies are hiding from you. Find out why you are getting deeper and deeper into debt and what you can do about it.The hits keep comin’: Home loan used to pay off credit card debt

National Geographic television has been around for quite some time now and I am actually happy that this channel has been able to broaden their viewers and help educate more people. Though many people have said that this channel is actually boring and should be off of cable, I believe that there is no better channel on TV today. Too often children are watching shows that mean absolutely nothing and it seems like education has definitely gone out the window. Children are now focused on reality TV shows like Jersey Shore and they literally are becoming stupider as they watch these types of shows. I believe that our future will be in better hands if more children watch the National Geographic and actually try to learn something. They will be able to learn more about the animals and different countries and their cultures. Though many people have said that the channel is overrated, I believe that it is actually underrated and that more people should watch the channel. I have been a fan for almost ten years now and I believe that the channel should be watched even more and should be introduced to children from all over the world on a daily basis. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: National Geographic Traveller’s Competition 2012 – Accepted

Here are a few of our favorite shows that you just can’t find on basic cable – upgrade and find out what everyone’s been talking about!
Dexter : He airs on Showtime on Sunday nights and he’s every bit as calculating and cold today as he’s been in past seasons. If you’re a fan of Michael C. Hall you’ve got to get the premium channels to see Dexter.
The Walking Dead : It’s another AMC original that’s making headlines and it’s back for an extended second season just in time for Halloween. It’s gory and thought-provoking and we think that’s what makes for good TV.
The Real Housewives of : There are too many great sets of ladies to count but they all bring the drama on a weekly basis. The Housewives of New Jersey and Beverly Hills are currently dominating ratings and you can’t get them if you’re still on basic. What are you waiting for?

Viewing your favorite television shows when you want and where you want is now a reality. You no longer have to be tied to the television at a certain time – you can see your favorites actors and episodes on demand on the web. You can skip the commercials – some of them at least – and even rewind a scene or funny moment. Websites from a variety of channels will give you the opportunity to watch one of thousand of episodes.

The latest episodes of your favorite programs are available almost instantly. Some websites offering online viewing are free and others charge a fee. Some are independent and carry episodes from a variety of channels; others are limited to carrying only programs from one channel. There are online viewing websites that offer episodes of prior seasons and others that don’t.

Who would have thought twenty years ago today that Americans could watch television when and where they want to. They can skip some of the commercials and replay, rewind, and fast forward with the use of VCR, DVD recorder, or DVR. Having a great computer monitor or an internet enabled television can make viewing your favorite programs online a terrific experience.

In today’s world, with the exception of people electing not to view television for religious or personal reasons, there are probably very few households that do not contain at least one television set. On average, with most being used at least one or more hours of any given day, it makes one wonder how much if anything the average viewer knows about the history of television.

Since most products were invented or pioneered by one person alone, it is interesting to note this was not the case for television. Several German scientists began experimenting with ways to send pictures over wires in the late 1800s but it was not until 1927 that the first picture tube as we know it today was granted a patent. The first image to be transmitted was ().

Transmissions were black and white until 1953 when color was introduced on an RCA system. Once mankind became attached to television viewing, changing channels by hand was the only way until 1956 when the first remote appeared, ironically named ‘Lazy Bones’ by its producer, Zenith Electronics. Aside from the remote, probably the most valuable innovation in television history is closed captioning for the hearing impaired in 1972.

Television has brought families together for as long as it has been around. Some shows make their debut and are not around for even an entire season. Then there are the television shows that capture our hearts and have been on television for years. These are the shows that teach lessons and entertain us.
Full House was on the air for eight years. The show was about a single father raising his three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law and friend. This show always had a moral or life lesson associated with it and reruns can still be seen on television today.
The Simpsons is the longest running animated TV show to date. The yellow family and their friends have been around for over 20 years and are still going strong with new episodes each week. Though funny and not always for children, the show still makes people laugh.
For those who enjoy news, Meet the Press began its long run in 1947. The Sunday morning news show has featured all members of political association as well as those in finance and history.
Sesame Street has been a staple in homes of young children for over 40 years. The show features puppets and characters who teach letters and numbers in a fun environment. The show is still on today teaching children and entertaining them.
The Price Is Right is the longest running game show airing for over 45 years. Though the show has changed hosts, it is still airing with new episodes each week.

I, like many of you am wondering what fall TV shows are still going to be around next year? I have enjoyed several of the new shows that premiered. Fox’s new show Raising Hope has been a pleasant surprise and I’m sure I’ll be recording it on my DVR next year.

I checked canceled shows,http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/2010-2011-canceled-tv-shows-18757/ for shows that had been canceled this year and I was sad to see Law & Order: Criminal Intent on the list. I thought the addition of Jeff Goldblum was brilliant and I’m looking forward to the final episodes with the return of Vincent D’Onofrio.

I have enjoyed the new NBC show The Event, but it certainly is not a replacement for Lost. After the show Flash-Forward crashed and burned last year, I’m not confident any show will be able to replace the brilliance of Lost.

I am hoping that the ABC show Better With You will stick around for a while. It’s not the best show on television right now, but it makes me laugh at least once or twice. I love how they begin the show with each couple at different stages in their relationships; in fact it’s funnier than Perfect Couples on NBC.

If you’re still gathering information on how to get the best surround sound quality you might want to make sure you can check off the following tips and tidbits as “known entities” during your quest for complete information.Front Speakers: It’s critical that you take the time to do your upfront planning with regard to front speaker placement (all speakers, actually). But in the case of the front two speakers, you should consider the position from which most people will be viewing the television and then place the front two speakers to form an equilateral triangle with the positioning of the center speaker. These two front speakers should be angled in (toed in) slightly toward the main viewing area.Rear Speakers: Just as the front speakers were designed to be placed in front of the viewing area most commonly occupied, the same is true with the rear speakers only behind the main viewing area but again angled slightly in (toed in) towards the center of that area.Subwoofer: Don’t be fooled by a common error made by many and place the subwoofer off in a corner of the room (which results in a very muddy/muffled sound quality). A better choice is to place it between the two front speakers; and even though frequencies below 300Hz travel omnidirectionally (in every direction) this is still considered the optimum placement. If this is not possible (for any number of reasons), a solid second choice is along a side wall at a distance of about one-third from the front speakers. As with most things you will get a lot of differing opinions and view points, but for an overall rule of thumb you can’t go wrong with the above placement. And keep in mind that sound quality is always better when speakers are taken off of shelves or bookcases and mounted on walls, so bite the bullet and buy some brackets!

My husband has been dropping hints for years and leaving endless wish lists about installing surround sound in the media room of our home. But since I’m a product of the 80′s generation and can only envision clunky and cumbersome speakers filling every corner, I’ve fought him on this from day one. But he always countered with “it won’t be that way” with a Bose system. You bet I’ve heard of Bose before just as I’m sure everyone else has, too. But I’m here to tell you this: unless you have actually experienced the incredible sound quality, then you really haven’t experienced Bose. Its surround sound quality is absolutely incredible, and my fears of huge speakers filling the corners were totally void once I saw the compact unit and realized how easily it would tuck into any small space. I know I’m not the only woman on this planet who might experience trepidation when imagining the potential invasive physical features of a surround sound system in her home. But I can say without an ounce of hesitation that the Bose system is (and will continue to be) a welcome member of our happy and well entertained household.
