I love Lucy was a legendary show which had everything going for it. Lucy was an aspiring actor, who could not catch a break. Her husband was a famous musician and actor who wouldn’t help her out. She and her friend Ethel were often in great mischief together, much to the dismay of their husbands. The series began in 1951 and ended in 1957. The club Tropicana was made famous because Mr. Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) worked here. Today, the famous clubs are still in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Another great show, most people know from the 50′s was the Gun smoke. This show was a pioneer in westerns that were soon to come. This show began in 1955 and ran until 1975. To date, this has been the longest running TV series in the drama category. Although it first started out as only a half hour show, it quickly became an entire hour. The whole show was based on the two main characters Marshal Matt Dillon and Doc Adams. Most of the scenes took place in the local saloon, owned by the beautiful Kitty Russell. This show can still be watched and has a popular fan base on today’s cable line up.
When you hear people saying that they just do not make TV shows, like they used to, its because of the great iconic shows of these days that cannot compare to today’s tv. Shows like Gun smoke and I Love Lucy were the foundation, which American TV was built on.
